In this tobacco litigation proceeding, Florence Monroe claims defendant tobacco companies concealed the dangers of their cigarettes, causing her nicotine addiction and, ultimately, her smoking-related disease.
The jury found in favor of plaintiff, awarding $11 million in compensatory damages and apportioning 58% of fault to defendant and 42% to plaintiff. Jurors rejected plaintiff's conspiracy and concealment claims and found punitive damages were not warranted.
