Defendant pled not guilty to 52 felony charges, including attempted murder, based on his firing a semi-automatic hand gun in a Las Vegas Casino, injuring four people.
On July 6, 2007, just after midnight, the defendant entered the New York New York casino with 249 rounds of 9mm ammunition. According to the prosecution, the defendant fired 16 rounds into a crowded casino floor from a balcony before his gun jammed. The defendant was then subdued by casino guests and arrested.
The defense claimed that the defendant did not intend to kill anyone, but was experiencing chronic physical pain, loneliness, and depression, and only hoped to get himself killed. According to the defense, the defendant had ample opportunity to actually kill someone, had he so intended.
The defendant was convicted on 51 of the 52 charges, including 16 counts of attempted murder.
The defendant was found guilty for 51 of the 52 charges.
