During a ten-year period the plaintiff, an attorney, loaned the defendant money -- bridge financing, or interim funding -- to trade petroleum products, such as crude oil or natural gas. The defendant allegedly owed the plaintiff $675,000, but refused to pay because the plaintiff could not document the debt. The documentation allegedly was destroyed by a computer virus.
The defendant noted that the plaintiff was an attorney, who should know to adequately document contracts, especially when lending money to his own clients, which the defendants were.
The judge awarded $50,915 plus interest of $54,982.
