In this Engle progeny tobacco litigation proceeding, plaintiff Claudette Campbell alleged R.J. Reynolds of fraudulent concealment of dangers of smoking cigarettes manufactured by the company, which led her to get addicted to smoking at an early age. The plaintiff also alleged the company of manufacturing defective cigarettes due to which she contracted bladder cancer, which was subsequently cured. The jury concluded that Ms. Campbell was not eligible to be a member of the Engle class, which would have required that an addiction to smoking caused her bladder cancer.
The plaintiff was represented by attorney Howard Acosta. The defendant in this case R.J. Reynolds was represented by attorney Dennis Murphy.
