Summary

Police officer who was President of the Fraternal Order of Police for Florida from 1996-2004, alleged that he lost his job and was defamed and humiliated by false statements on June 24, 2005, publicly accusing him of fraud and misappropriation of funds.

The defendants asserted the the plaintiff had abused his position by getting reimbursed for attending pension seminars that were not part of his job, and they were obligated to terminate his position.

The jury found for the plaintiff on breach of employment contract and defamation claims, and awarded damages in excess of $300,000.
