Plaintiff Jennifer Barnett suffered a brain stem stroke, which was left untreated for 24 hours. This stroke led to Barnett developing pervasive numbness, weakness, and confusion, and requiring assistance for simple daily tasks. Despite seeing Dr. Richisa Hamilton-Salazar shortly after symptoms developed, Barnett was not diagnosed with a stroke until later. Barnett claims that Dr. Hamilton-Salazar should have recognized the signs of a stroke and followed appropriate stroke protocol, which could have allowed her to seek treatment.
Defendant Hamilton-Salazar claims that the initial symptoms Barnett presented were common to various conditions. Additionally, he claims that he consulted with a neurologist and considered the possibility of a stroke, but relied on a radiologists incorrect information.
Verdict for defendant.
