John Denove outlines what he says led a 68-year-old woman to suffer serious injuries when her motorized wheelchair lift pitched forward, as trial opened against the company that installed the lift.

Denove said Laura Rubin, who had been recovering from spinal fusion surgery when the 2014 accident occurred, required additional spinal surgeries after the lift sent her motorized wheelchair crashing onto her. Denove claims faulty installation by defendant Greg Joneson and Love Handles, his company, led to the accident.

Rubin is seeking more than $14 million in damages in the Los Angeles Superior Court bench trial.
